Origins: A Haven

The worlds are changed.  Humans have grown weary from sorrow and toil, and in their despair they've grown cruel and unloving.  Pain often begets pain, and the link between humans and other beings has cracked.  Beings of myth and legend have fled the world of humans, and animals and humans no longer share the same language. There are some, however, who resist these changes.

One such creature is a young girl, one retaining her innocence and refusing to cloak her wildness.  For she was blessed with the gift that, in her land, doomed her to die a cruel and early death.  And so she fled, hiding the gift as long as possible, finding danger always at her heels.  Until finally, she was left to wander the worlds.  She let nature teach her what she needed of her gift and of her self.  Eventually, tiring of her wanderings, the young girl longed to make a home of her own.

Lost in the gaze of the stars in the deep night she whispers her name to the wind, giving up the last thing she's kept of her old life. "Vineda," she is called now, a wisp of an ancient name gifted back by the wind.  A name for a name.

She came to create a land of her own, one that took on a life of its own as it grew and flourished.  A place she could call Home.  It was not unheard of for forests to walk or rivers to change their course whenever they felt like it.  Technology of humans simply does not work in this place.  What few humans are to be found live in small villages of sorts, or simply wander in small groups or alone.  Plants and animals are sometimes giant here, and yet other times they are minuscule.

Many creatures and spirits find their way here; some visit, some leave, some stay in this land that is still young and in some parts yet without a name, and all are welcomed.  There is but one rule widely followed: Harm None.

Others are now welcomed here, those who may not be welcomed in their old homes any longer.  Beings seeking haven.  Creatures wanting a new start.  Those seeking protection.  Envision a nature preserve... that also serves to create a space for fairies, magnificent dragons, fabled unicorns, griffons, giants, monsters, supposedly extinct species... Worlds that need a place to anchor. All with ties to this place.  'Tis wondrous to behold.
